CHR Researcher of the Month

August 4, 2010 - Robarts Scientist Dr. Sean Cregan has been named Researcher of the Month for August 2010 by Canadians for Health Research. A profile of Dr. Cregan appears on the Canadians for Health Research website.

The profile explores his work to identify the molecules that force injured nerve cells in the brain to die during stroke or in neurodegenerative conditions, such as Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease. It highlights his achievements, including being one of the first scientists worldwide to identify the key role of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF), an atypical regulator of cell death in the brain.

Canadians for Health Research is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to engaging Canadian adults and youth in understanding health research issues, scientific processes and their impact, through education and advocacy. The Researcher of the Month profiles began in 2003 as a means of introducing Canadians to scientists conducting some of the most interesting health research of our time.
